RYAN'S STORY

Who is Ryan Arendt?

Hello everyone, my name is Ryan Arendt. I grew up in Falls Church, Virginia as a child and moved to Chantilly when I was 6. Currently, I am living with my loving and supportive family that plans to smother me with love as I get through these tough times.

I graduated from John Champe High School in 2017 and I am a senior at Penn State University currently fighting Stage IV Ewing’s Sarcoma. I have just recently started my battle but I am eagerly looking forward to the day that I can call myself a survivor rather than a fighter.

My Mentality

I’d like to share some words about my life and my mentality going through this.

I always felt like I was a normal kid, but as I look back I’d like to think of myself as a daring and innovative kid. Pushing the envelope with types of big LEGO creations I could build when I was 8, to pushing the envelope of when my parents wouldn’t be mad at me for missing curfew at 18. I brought this mentality to sports as well. I grew up playing and loving soccer, from the ODFC Cobras to the Loudoun 98 Red, I always thought my team was my second family. All the coaches and teammates I’ve had over the years have not only helped me develop as a player but also as a person, and I thank sports in general so much for that. I always wanted to be the fastest, or the strongest. I wanted to be the best, and today I still want to be the best possible person I can be. I’ll never shy away from a challenge, but as one of my coaches told me “never pick a fight you know you can’t win”. I feel bad that Ewing’s Sarcoma had to pick me, I’ll have to ask how it feels to lose when I’m done with it.
